Rural Development Programs

The main activity of the company from the beginning of its operation is the planning and the management of Rural Development Programs.
The most important of these Rural Development Programs are:
a)    The community initiative LEADER, which is implemented in the region since 1991,
b)    Agricultural Development – Reform of the Countryside 2000-2006 which is an Operational Program of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, and
c)    Agricultural Development – Reform of the Countryside 2000-2006 which is an operational program of the Region of Crete
The application of Operational Programs of “Agricultural Development – Reform of the Countryside 2000-2006” began during the period of implementation of the 3rd Communal Framework of Support (2000-2006).
These two programs have important differences so much in the way of planning as in their implementation.
The community initiative LEADER has as basic characteristic that its planning and implementation are acting out in local level, from representative corporate forms of the society, such as the Development Agencies.
On the other side, in regard to the Operational Programs of “Agricultural Development – Reform of the Countryside 2000-2006”, the main aim of the company is to provide technical support in the “Ministry of Rural Development and Food” and in the “Region of Crete”, as an "antenna" of the Regional Structure that is functioned in the level of Crete.
Both of these programs contribute in the development of the region and in the avoidance of the tendency for abandonment which there is in the region.
