c) Transnational Co-operation titled “Geoparks: An ideal destination for the development of alternative tourism and educational activities in rural regions around Europe”
Participation in Networks:
European Geoparks Network:
The European Geoparks Network is constituted at the moment by 35 regions (members of the Network) where altogether work for the maintenance and appointment of their geological heritage, through completed action for the sustainable development of their regions. The Network was created aiming to the protection, appointment and promotion of the geological, natural and cultural heritage of the rural regions of Europe, by developing and promoting educational and geo-touristic activities with high quality of specifications.
All members are evaluated after four-year action from experts of the Network and some other International Organizations, aiming to the guarantee of high quality characteristics for each region. All the members of the European Geoparks Network are also members of the Global Geoparks Network of UNESCO.

Global Geoparks Network of UNESCO
The Global Geoparks Network was created by UNESCO in 2004 aiming to the promotion of protection of the geological heritage and geo-tourism all-around the world.
