Emblematic Mediterranean Mountains

 

 

 

 

 

 

 The program “EMbleMatiC” is implemented through the INTERREG -MED Program 2014-2020.

The central strategic objective of this program is the characterization of emblematic mountains of the Mediterranean as destinations of excellence. This goal is directly linked to the specific objective 3.1 "To enhance the development of sustainable and responsible coastal and maritime tourism in the Mediterranean area" INTERREG program-MED. The direct link of the objective of the program " EMbleMatiC " with the objective of INTERREG 3.1-MED derives from the effort to achieve sustainable development of regions through coordinated and targeted methods and practices, in terms of integrated management    of coastal tourism.

We could say that the Program “EMbleMatiC”is a LABORATORY to test and create a new form of tourism based on the singularitieslocated on the hinterland coastal territories of our mountains. 

 

The Emblematic Mediterranean Mountains Network was founded through a transnational project in the frame of Leader Program 2007-2013. The main aim of the network was the qualification EMbleMatic Mediterranean Mountains as costal destinations of excellence. 

The year 2015, the partners of the network decided to redefine the partnership. As a result, new members joined the network. 

Today, members of the network are 9 mountains from 5 European countries and 1 university.

The initial goal of the network to designate the Mediterranean emblematic mountains as a destination of excellence remains stable.

 

The three specific objectives identified through the current program are:

 

To rebalance tourism flows and their returns toward a more sustainable and responsible tourism

To co-build and experiment a slow tourism offer located in the hinterland coastal mountainous area

To improve the international recognition of our singularity
